Paul Carvis – Partner at Chadwick Lawrence

Paul Carvis is a Director of Personal Injury with over 40 years experience in dealing with all areas of the personal injury field on behalf of Claimants and Defendants.

Paul started his legal career in the West End of London before returning to his native Leeds in 1979 when he took over the practice of Denis Lyth & Co. He merged that firm with Godloves the following year and in 2012 Godloves merged with Chadwick Lawrence LLP. He has continued to use his vast experience in securing and seeking the best settlements possible for his clients, especially in cases where other solicitors have advised that they could not be won. Paul is a member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel and the Personal Injury Lawyers Association which fight for the rights of injured Claimants. Paul has also in his career been a Deputy District Judge so is able to bring his vast experience to help all ranges of clients.

Paul is highly experienced  in complex, high value injury claims. Paul also has considerable experience in dealing with fatal accident claims and life changing accidents whether they be as a result of a road traffic accident, accident at the workplace or indeed anywhere there has been fault by a third party. Paul has specialist expertise in claims on behalf of people who have gone on a package holiday and suffered an injury or accident whilst abroad. He regularly achieves compensation for the Claimant which will include an element of reimbursement for the cost for at least part of the holiday itself.

Paul prides himself on his pro-active approach to cases and realising how clients want to be kept informed in the progress in the claim, he ensures that he contacts them on a regularly basis so that they are at all times aware of exactly what progress has been in the claim.

Sir Rodney was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Bradford in December 1996 in recognition of his services to the County and admitted in 2002 to the Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem in the rank of Knight of Grace in recognition of his services to health. In 2014 he received an Honorary Degree from the University of Huddersfield.

In November 2007, Sir Rodney was awarded the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award by First Wakefield in recognition of his service to the City, Sport and Business and for leading campaigns which have raised an estimated £40 million for a variety of charities and good causes.

In September 2012, Sir Rodney was presented with the Freedom of the City by his home town of Wakefield and in 2015 was presented with a  Lifetime Achievement Award at the Wakefield Business Awards.

Karen Wilczek – Head of Office Leeds, Aon UK Limited

Karen has worked in the insurance industry for her entire 34 year career, most of which has been with global insurance broker, Aon. Her experience has always been focused on the risk and insurance needs of a diverse range of corporate clients, both in the UK and overseas, with more recent years extending into management roles.

She is keen to ensure the Leeds office support the Aon UK community affairs programme which was launched to encourage colleagues to become actively involved in supporting local communities. This includes mentoring and volunteering, arranging charitable sponsorship and donations through the Aon UK Charitable Foundation. Karen is originally from Bath but Yorkshire is now very much home having lived here for over 20 years

Mike Hegarty – Director, FBT Europe Ltd

Mike was educated at the Universities of York and Leeds. His first career path proved successful as
he rose to become the Director of Wakefield College in the 1990s.During this time he was appointed
to work nationally by the Cabinet office to develop standards for the Royal Charter Initiative. He was
also in his youth a competitive sportsman as a semi professional soccer player and cricketer in one of
Yorkshire’s senior leagues. He was Chairman of Nostell St Oswald Cricket Club for 15 years during
which time he attracted many world class cricketers to their small village Club.

Mike resigned from academic life in 1998 preferring to take up the challenges of commercial ventures
by following an opportunity to go into business with partners with the Far East. He was appointed
managing Director of Zeus International and then moved on to take up the same post with ABL
International.

Mike was responsible for developing rapid growth in each of these Companies and during his time at
the helm he had procured orders for ASDA, Aldi, Sainsburys, Coca Cola, the Home Office, City
Facilities and also obtained exclusive licences to design manufacture and distribute Lotto Sports and
Leisure wear throughout the UK.

He is currently CEO of ROMIRO Ltd, Director of FBT Europe Ltd, Lorimar Embroidery Print Ltd and
Veritas Corporate Ltd, who provide a strong supporting relationship to City Facilities Ltd, the facilities
partner to ASDA plc.

Andy Hobson – Managing Director, Fantastic Media

Andrew began his marketing career in London looking after such brands as the arrows F1 Racing
Team and the national food chain Prêt a Manger. As a design manager he was responsible for the
successful implementation and fulfilment of all marketing and design strategies.

In 1993 Andrew was invited to join TSA (now SFX) to assist, develop and manage existing accounts
predominantly within the sports industry. Working directly within the football division Andrew worked
with such brands as David Beckham, Michael Owen and Alan Shearer.

Still with TSA, Andrew’s previous experience within sports business led him to be assigned to
Sampdoria Football Club in Genoa to begin working on increasing revenue streams within the
stadium. During his time in Italy he gained valuable experience of the international commercialism
within sport.

Now the founder and owner of Fantastic Media, he employs over 25 highly skilled media and

Gary Morrison – General Manager, Hilton Leeds City

Gary Morrison joined the Hilton Leeds City earlier this year, a Northern Ireland native, he is now an adopted Yorkshireman, having arrived in Leeds to study in 1988. A keen supporter of Leeds United and Harrogate Town, Gary is delighted to be working in the great city of Leeds and hopes to contribute via membership of the Leeds Hoteliers and Venues Association and Leeds Bid adding continued success to Leeds and the great county of Yorkshire.

Gary previously managed the Hilton Manchester Airport for 7 years, prior to which he started his Hilton career with the Hilton York and has been a General Manager with Hilton for over 10 years.

Simon Baldwin, Head of Enterprise & Operations – Leeds Beckett University

Simon is Head of Enterprise & Operations leading a team of staff providing a university-wide service
which develops and delivers enterprise contracts in consultancy, CPD and Knowledge Transfer
Partnerships.

Simon has over 25 years of experience working at Leeds Beckett in business facing roles and teams
and specialises in strategic leadership and enterprise operational management.

Prior to working in the Corporate Enterprise Service, Simon held senior management positions in the
Faculty of Business & Law including two appointments as Director of our Policy Research Institute.
Recently, Simon has overseen the development and establishment of our University Business
Centres providing support to new and growing businesses in the Leeds City Region with new
locations in Leeds, Halifax and Wakefield.

Simon is also a Lay Canon of Ripon Cathedral in the Anglican Diocese of Leeds and served as Chair
of the Board of Finance for the Diocese for over 10 years.

Rick Wakelin – Managing Director, Yorkshire Productions Limited

Rick Wakelin has over 20 years of marketing experience across numerous industry sectors, including,
Travel, IT, Telecoms, Home Shopping and Sport.

Having worked in direct marketing with large brands including Microsoft, Nokia, Vodafone, The FA,
British Airways and Next Directory his mix of creativity and technical is now working in producing
Video at Yorkshire Productions for clients such as Cloud Nine Hair, Grand Central Rail, The National
Railway Museum and Hermes.

Rick’s goals remain simple; to innovate, create great work, break rules, explore new ideas, take risks
and above all build things.

Mark Dexter, Director – Dexter Media

Mark Dexter has spent 20 years in TV and 16 years in newspapers. It gives him a profound understanding of
what makes a story and how best to tell it through the mediums of broadcasting, print and social media
platforms.

As a reporter/producer for Sky News, Sky Sports News and Yorkshire Television, he tackled the big stories
and the not so big. The same applied during his career with the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Newcastle
Chronicle and weekly newspapers.

He remains as driven today, about telling great stories, as he was in 1981 when he joined the local paper
and excited by how social media offers new ways of telling them.

Five years ago, he told a waiting world that Yorkshire’s younger generations no longer know On Ilkla Moor
Baht ‘at. He looks forward to breaking the news that something is being done to secure its future.
