Bob Smith

Yorkshire Awards `Community Hero` 2016

Presented by Steve Hall, General Manager, Hilton Leeds City

Bob Smith, 64, is a selfless man who gives up 1000 hours a year to help the people of Leeds, as Community First Responder for St John Ambulance.

Bob has been a volunteer first aider for 28 years and has been in his current role with the Mid Yorkshire Unit for the last 7 years.
During this time, Bob has saved the lives of many people. He was recently called to help an elderly man lying unconscious on a pavement in East Garforth. He arrived within minutes of the 999 call and, seeing the patient was not breathing, immediately began CPR and gave defibrillator shocks to the heart until the ambulance arrived.
“I can’t express how rewarding it is to know I’ve made a difference to people and their families.”

Bob attends an average of 4 public events per month as a first aider, where he helps to train new recruits.
