Special Award 2013
Presented by Peter Kirrane on behalf of Widdsigns.
Rifleman Craig Wood joined the army at 16 and was sent to Afghanistan just 3 days after his 18th birthday and 12 weeks later in 2009 he was blown up by a wire-detonated roadside Taliban bomb on his first patrol.
He lost both legs and part of his left arm and fought back to an active life in an Army Rehabilitation Hospital in Surrey. He was visited in hospital by both the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and both praised his courage.
Craig has since returned to his passion of wind surfing and wants to be part of the 2016 Paralympics team for the games in Brazil. This year he completed a 3-day cycle ride on a special adapted bicycle from Surrey to Paris to raise money for children with special needs.
