Harry Gration MBE

Harry Gration is very well known to TV viewers in Yorkshire. He’s presented BBC Look North since 1984 and has covered numerous events for the BBC, including his ninth Olympic Games last year, several FIFA World Cups and Wimbledon. This year his work with the BBC and Olympic coverage was recognised by being awarded an MBE.
Born in Bradford, Harry started out as a history teacher, using school holidays to do match reports for BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Radio Humberside. He moved on to work for BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Match of the Day and Grandstand, and during the 1990s was also a public affairs executive for the Rugby Football League.
Harry has honorary doctorates from both Bradford and Leeds Metropolitan Universities; and has won several awards for his broadcasting and writing.
Away from broadcasting, Harry has been president of the Scarborough Cricket Festival, chair of the Yorkshire Tourist Board Tourism Awards and he is currently involved in numerous charities all over Yorkshire.
