Winners Andrew and Nicholas Howarth of Howarth Timber were presented the award by Karen Wilczek, Head of Office Leeds, Aon UK Limited.

Howarth Timber Group is the UK’s largest privately-owned timber company, starting in 1840 in Leeds as Hudson & Co. Since then it has expanded from a one-man company to an employer of more than 1,000 people. Staff, are the most important part of who they are. They actively support training and development, being the Builders Merchants Federation Training Company of the year for 2014.

They operate an integrated manufacturing and distribution supply chain to serve their customers, mostly from the construction industry, with a 60 acre wharf on the Humber which imports 10% of the UK’s timber together with warehousing and extensive timber treatment and machining facilities.

With their chain of timber and builders merchants, they operate out of 35 sites in the UK.

In the last 2 years through organic growth their turnover has grown by over 25%, from £126m to £159m and they have a capital investment program which will be over £14m this year.
