Linda Barker

Born and brought up in Yorkshire, Linda Barker originally trained as a Fine Artist at West Surrey College of Art and Design before becoming a freelance designer, eventually moving towards designing interiors.

In 1988 she began working with the media, styling and writing interiors features for House Beautiful, Inspirations, Country Homes & Interiors and Bella. During this time, she continued to design interiors for private clients as well as working on product launches and parties for PR companies.

Linda’s television career began in 1994 with an appearance on BBC’s Home Front. The following year she and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen made the pilot programme of Changing Rooms and the rest is history. Changing Rooms has been a phenomenal success, moving from BBC2 to BBC1, with ten million viewers, and is now on its twelfth series.

In 1999 Linda began co-presenting House Invaders for daytime BBC1, and she is filming the third series. She was co-presenter on Planet Christmas a three part special for BBC2, broadcast pre Christmas 2001.

She has guested on a number of programmes, including Good Morning with Anne and Nick, The Antiques Show, GMTV, Through the Keyhole and Ross Television in the States and has filmed a special series on furniture for The Heaven and Earth Show.

For the past three years she has written a regular interiors column for the Telegraph Saturday Magazine and she is a contributor to BBC Good Homes magazine and Your Home.

Her books include a series for Anaya: Simply Paint, Simply Fabric, Simply Curtains and Simply Paper, which was followed by The Creative Nursery for Salamander. She has written all three of the Changing Rooms books for BBC Books and her latest book Trade Secrets (David and Charles) is a compilation of her Saturday Telegraph features. Her books to date have sold over a million copies in countries around the world.

She has designed a very popular range of wallpapers and bed linen for Crown, which has won two design awards.
