Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE

Lord Patel has extensive experience working at the highest levels on national and international developments in government policy on a wide range of areas, including health, social care, crime, community cohesion, extremism, mental health, drug and alcohol use, equality and human rights, sport and higher education. He has, over the years, been appointed to and chaired a number of national boards and government committees in all of these areas. He is currently Patron of over 35 charities.

Lord Patel has been the architect of a number of Government policies, including on, mental health, preventing violent extremism and prisons (he was Chairman of a Taskforce looking at the effectiveness of prison drug treatment culminating in the publication of The Patel Report).

Lord Patel was ennobled as a Cross Bench Peer in 2006 and later appointed as Minister in the House of Lords Government’s Whip’s Office as Front Bench Spokesperson in 2008.
