Community Hero Award 2011
Sue King gave a personal commitment to young people at risk many years ago when she started fostering children for Bradford Social Services.
Many of the children were disturbed and had often been abused. Despite her own family commitments she took in many children and even opened a drop in centre at her Church for parents of addicts.
Over 15 years ago she set up a home for young men suffering drug addiction and in recent years expanded to two houses accommodating homeless young men suffering drug addiction.
Sue King has visited drug users on the margins of society, both in prisons and on the streets of the inner city of Bradford. She has given evidence at Magistrates and Crown Court on behalf of addicts and her opinions are highly respected in Court.
Sue King has great fortitude and compassion for the young men who come to her for help. She receives no material benefits for her tireless efforts and despite receiving limited funding from local funders manages to achieve incredible results. She has saved many young men from a life of crime and addiction and saved Bradford many millions of pounds in drug related crime.
