Sir Rodney Walker reveals a new look Yorkshire Awards this year.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Yorkshire Awards and a VIP audience will see a new award and a new image at this year’s gala dinner and awards ceremony, being held at Hilton Hotel, Leeds on 12th October 2018.

Here in full is the welcome message from the evening’s programme:

In welcoming you all, along with this year’s category winners, we are pleased to welcome back a number of past winners, here to help us celebrate this important milestone.

This year also marks the start of a more formal relationship between the Yorkshire Awards and The Yorkshire Society.

The 30th anniversary also provides the opportunity to review and refresh the awards. We have commissioned a unique design for the award which is reflected in the maquettes to be presented to our winners. The design is intended to be representative of the pride which we have in our winners and arrangements are already in hand to commission a large sculpture of the new design to be installed at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

We will tonight be presenting a special award to Welcome to Yorkshire, who are celebrating their own 10th anniversary this year. The award is recognition of their achievements in promoting Yorkshire as a major tourist destination. Of course, much credit for their success must go to their Chief Executive Officer, Sir Gary Verity, with whom we hope to work to promote the county as not only a place to visit, but also a place to live and work.

It is our intention in the future to seek a greater involvement by the Yorkshire public in influencing the choice of Yorkshire Awards winners. We are also in touch with The Yorkshire Society patron HRH the Duke of York and wish to inaugurate a new award in his name to recognise particularly outstanding contributions to the county.

In thanking all our guests for their support, I also wish to place on record my appreciation for the continuing support of all our sponsors. As regular guests know, we will once again carry out a modest fundraising to add to the £300,000 already raised from our dinners for local charities and worthy causes.

Thank you and enjoy the evening.
