Presented by Kevin Newson, Senior Partner, Yorkshire Bank

Royal Naval Reservist Aircraft Engineer Mechanic Michelle Ping was “Mentioned in Dispatches” for her bravery during her first tour of Afghanistan last year. Michelle, 38, from Dungworth, Sheffield usually works for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service in Leeds, but signed up for the Reserves after leaving the Royal Navy in 1998 and during her current tour she was a paramedic attached to various foot patrols. When one of her team, Craig Patterson, was shot in the head while on a rooftop, she lay on top of him to protect him from further injuries and then helped soldiers to run him to safety over half a kilometre of rough terrain.
